His reference books and professional journals helped Bad Brueckenau achieve to world fame as a medicinal bath for illnesses of the kidneys and the bladder. They were read and taken into account all over the world.
While Dr. Felix Schlagintweit practiced in Brueckenau, kings and emperors visited the village. In 1898 Empress Elisabeth of Austria was his most famous patient. She spent a four-week regimen in Bad Brueckenau. Dr. Schlagintweit deceased 1950. His widow bequeathed a part of her property to the Free State of Bavaria before her death in 1959 on condition that it should be used for the support of needy ill persons.
That way the "Schlagintweit fund" was founded. Since that time its means are all to those at the disposal, for which a cure is medically necessary in Bad Brueckenau, but who financially cannot afford it.
